Milton gets $8.4M to fund infrastructure after surpassing housing target
The $8.4M award will pay for local infrastructure to support the 2,699 homes Milton started in 2025 and help keep housing projects moving.
Summary
What happened
- The Town of Milton received $8.4 million through the third round of the Building Faster Fund for meeting housing progress targets.
Who this affects
- Milton residents and developers: funds are intended for infrastructure that supports new housing (stormwater systems, road expansion and renewal, and other community services).
By the numbers (from the release)
- 2,699 new homes broke ground in Milton in 2025, 28% over the town’s annual target.
- From Jan–May 2026, Ontario recorded 26,084 housing starts (up 17.2%) and 13,599 rental starts (up 94.9%), a record for that period.
- Ontario is also investing nearly $35 million across Halton Region through the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, including over $10 million for Milton.
Why it matters
- The funding is aimed at unlocking and supporting housing already under construction by paying for the infrastructure those homes need.
- The province is pairing this reward with other measures (development charge reduction incentives, temporary HST removal on new homes, and extended spending deadlines to 2028) to speed housing delivery and lower costs.
