Bill 12, Safe Access to Schools Sunset Extended, keeps current safe access rules for school entrances in place longer by extending the law's end date. It received royal assent on April 16, 2026. Sponsored by Niki Sharma (BC NDP).
This is a short update to an existing law. It changes the date when the Safe Access to Schools Act will end (its “sunset” date). That Act sets rules meant to keep school entrances open and students and staff free from harassment. There are no other changes. The amendment takes effect once it receives Royal Assent.
