B.C. mineral exploration permits beat their first deadlines

B.C. says it is meeting its fixed timelines for mineral exploration permits, introduced in April 2026. Targets are 40, 90 or 140 days, depending on project complexity; the first two permits were issued in less than 70 days, ahead of their 90- and 140-day targets.

• Other examples: Northisle Copper and Gold’s North Island exploration program was permitted in under three months. Korestar Exploration’s Aspen project was permitted in under two months.
• Consultation progress: Since the Mineral Claims Consultation Framework began in March 2025, about 80% of applications received have been processed, and median approval time has decreased by about 8%. Budget 2026 allocated $2 million to support the framework.
• Standards: The province says permitting decisions continue to require environmental protections, public safety standards and consultation with First Nations.
