Summary
Summary#
The Order Amending the Canadian Egg Marketing Levies Order changes the levy rates that egg producers must pay in four provinces. It took effect on June 26, 2026 (the day it was registered).
What it does#
- Sets new levy rates for egg producers in these provinces:
- Ontario: $0.4455
- Quebec: $0.4805
- New Brunswick: $0.5155
- Alberta: $0.5105
- The change was made by the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency and approved under the Farm Products Agencies Act with review by the National Farm Products Council.
- The Order comes into force on the registration date (June 26, 2026).
Who's affected#
- Egg producers who sell or market eggs in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Alberta.
- The Canadian Egg Marketing Agency, which collects levies and runs the marketing plan funded by those levies.
- It is unclear from the Order whether and how other provincial producers or downstream buyers (retailers, processors) will be directly affected.
Why it matters#
- The levy is a direct cost to producers in the named provinces. A change in the levy affects producers' business costs and the funds available for industry programs the Agency runs.
- If you are an egg producer in one of the four provinces, this tells you the new per-producer levy rate to expect.
- For the general public, this is mainly an industry funding change; any wider effects on retail prices are not stated in the Order.
