Who's affected#

  • Staff who work in the listed HR units and HR/IT teams at the transferring departments may see changes in their reporting lines and which department manages their work.
  • The listed departments: Department of Citizenship and Immigration, Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, Correctional Service of Canada, Department of Employment and Social Development, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
  • The central receiving organization: Department of Public Works and Government Services.
  • Other federal employees and managers who use the affected HR systems could notice changes in who provides system support or makes decisions about development and operations.
  • The order is an internal administrative rearrangement. The public and outside businesses are unlikely to be directly affected, unless they depend on services that use those HR systems.

Why it matters#

  • The order centralizes control of several HR systems and support units under Public Works and Government Services, which could change how HR applications are developed, maintained, and supported across departments.
  • For staff who use or run these systems, the change could mean new contacts for support, different priorities for system updates, or shifts in how releases and configurations are handled.
  • The Gazette notice records dates when the transfers become effective, but it does not describe any operational details or immediate service changes; those practical effects may become clear only after the departments implement the transfers.
