Summary

Summary#

The final rule Regulations Amending the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency Quota Regulations, 1986 updates the federal egg quota limits for each province and territory for the year that begins December 29, 2024 and ends December 27, 2025. The new quotas set how many dozens of eggs producers may market under the federal quota system for that period.

What it does#

  • Replaces Schedule 1 to the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency Quota Regulations, 1986 with new provincial and territorial limits for the period December 29, 2024 to December 27, 2025.
  • Comes into force on December 29, 2024.
  • Sets the maximum number of dozens of eggs allowed under federal quota for each province and territory:
    • Ontario — 335,886,939
    • Quebec — 189,763,232
    • Nova Scotia — 27,088,109
    • New Brunswick — 17,809,743
    • Manitoba — 79,159,095
    • British Columbia — 117,477,963
    • Prince Edward Island — 4,497,872
    • Saskatchewan — 42,722,300
    • Alberta — 100,627,639
    • Newfoundland and Labrador — 12,138,821
    • Northwest Territories — 3,965,288

Who's affected#

  • Egg producers who market their production under the federal quota system.
  • The Canadian Egg Marketing Agency, which administers those quotas.
  • Producers in the provinces and territory listed above — these are the places where the specific limits apply.

Why it matters#

  • These numbers determine how many dozens of eggs producers are allowed to sell under federal quotas during the 2024–2025 quota year.
  • That can affect producers' planning and how much supply is available through the federal marketing system.
  • This is a routine administrative update of the quota schedule; it sets numerical limits rather than changing the rules about who must follow the quota system.
