Petition to the Government of Canada Whereas: the Red Bridge in Kamloops, British Columbia, built in 1936, is a historic and modern-day vital transportation link connecting downtown Kamloops and Tkémlúps te Secwépemc lands; this iconic landmark was destroyed by arson in September 2024, disrupting transportation, local commerce and regional connectivity; the loss of this crossing continues to impact commuters, industry and emergency access; and this project aligns with federal priorities, including infrastructure renewal, economic development, climate resilience and Indigenous partnership. We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to: 1. Fund and Fast-track the Red Bridge Replacement in Kamloops by working with the Province of British Columbia, the City of Kamloops and Tkémlúps te Secwépemc to support the speedy replacement of the Red Bridge; and 2. Immediately commit federal infrastructure funding to the construction of a new bridge to restore this critical transportation link.
