Official petition

Petition to: The House of Commons We, the undersigned citizens/residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons to the clear evidence that advertising for online sports gambling causes harm to Canadians. Studies have linked the introduction of legalized online sports gambling to increases in problem gambling, increases in personal bankruptcy and decreases in mental wellbeing. These effects are seen most starkly among young men. We, the undersigned, therefore call upon the House of Commons to pass Bill S-211 into law and to follow up the passage of that Bill by subsequently enacting a national framework to regulate sports gambling advertisements and requiring the Canadian Radio and Telecommunications Commission to review its regulations and policies to assess their adequacy and effectiveness in reducing the incidence of harms resulting from the proliferation of sports betting advertisements.
