Suspend Canada Post executive bonuses

Petitioners ask the government to suspend all executive bonuses at Canada Post until it stops losing money and to require Canada Post to publish a credible plan to regain financial viability while preserving postal services.

Why we would sign this petition

  • Suspending executive bonuses creates immediate accountability for Canada Post leadership during a period of financial losses.
  • Requiring a published recovery plan pressures Canada Post to set out concrete steps and timelines to return to financial viability.
  • Tying fiscal measures to preserving services aims to protect universal postal delivery Canadians rely on.

Why we wouldn’t sign this petition

  • Suspending bonuses may hinder recruitment and retention of experienced executives needed to execute a complex turnaround.
  • Forcing a public plan could reveal commercially sensitive information or limit Postes Canada’s flexibility during negotiations and restructuring.
  • Bonus suspension is a short-term measure that may not address underlying operational or structural causes of losses; other reforms or funding changes might be more effective.

The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.

Official petition

PETITION TO THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA Whereas Canada Post has lost hundreds of millions of dollars per year for many years and has recently had to seek billions of dollars in loans just to remain solvent; Whereas Canada Post paid out $31 million in executive bonuses in 2025, despite having no plan whatsoever to return to financial viability; Whereas Canadians and Canadian Union of Postal Workers members expect a plan from Canada Post executives for the crown corporation to remain viable, rather than having executives manage decline; Therefore be it resolved that the undersigned call on the Liberal government to suspend all executive bonuses at Canada Post until such time as the crown corporation stops its financial losses; And be it further resolved that Canada Post release a credible plan to return the crown corporation to financial viability, while at the same time maintaining public postal services on which Canadians rely.
