Reinstate Ralston Armoury use

Petitioners ask the Minister of National Defence to reverse abandonment of the Colonel James Layton Ralston Armoury, complete repairs, declare it surplus and appoint a DND representative to a committee to explore ownership and reuse.

Why we would sign this petition

  • Keeps a historic regimental museum and active cadet training spaces, preserving local military heritage and ongoing youth programs.
  • Completing repairs prevents further decay and addresses public-safety hazards, protecting the building fabric and its users.
  • Appointing a DND representative to a local committee ensures joint decision-making and could yield community-backed options for ownership and reuse.

Why we wouldn’t sign this petition

  • Repairing and maintaining an ageing armoury may require substantial funds and DND resources that could compete with other defence priorities.
  • Declaring the building surplus risks transferring ownership away from military or community use unless transfer conditions are tightly constrained.
  • Forming a multi-stakeholder committee may delay decisive action and create disagreements, prolonging the building's uncertain status.

The summary and both sets of reasons are AI-generated from the petition and given equal weight. Claims are the petitioners’ own; consult the official record for the full text.
