Official petition

Petition to the Prime Minister In Canada and globally, sweltering heatwaves, devastating wildfires, melting glaciers, and unprecedented droughts and floods demonstrate that we are well into a climate crisis and flirting with a climate catastrophe; We are experiencing an existential moment in human and planetary history that demands bold, purposeful action; The crisis is caused by burning non-renewable fossil fuels; Renewable energy is, in very many places, the most cost-effective source of new electrical power; and Canada is actively engaged in an unprecedented opportunity to build a stronger, flourishing, and more internationally connected and respected country. We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Prime Minister to create and implement an urgent, high-profile, generously funded Build Canada Stronger Climate Program anchored in: 1. Accelerating the connection of our electricity transmission infrastructure across Canada, and building one that is designed to enable distributed sources of electricity, large and small; 2. Empowering a massive build out of renewable electricity systems (solar, wind, geothermal and batteries) at scale, and quickly; 3. Galvanizing ambitious programs to radically reduce the carbon footprint of the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, for both new and existing buildings and industrial plants; 4. Expanding a comprehensive program to move our transportation sector off oil-based fuels and onto battery power; and 5. Redirecting the annual billions of dollars of current fossil fuel subsidies to help fund the Build Canada Stronger Climate Program.
