Manitoba adds 103 community placements for patients leaving hospital

New beds, housing placements and mobile support aim to help people who no longer need acute care leave hospital safely.

Summary

Manitoba is adding 103 community spaces and supports to help patients who no longer need acute care transition out of hospital. The province says this will free hospital capacity for people who need it.

The investment includes:

  • 32 beds at Siloam Mission for people experiencing homelessness
  • 15 beds at 1400 Notre Dame for people needing ongoing mental health support
  • 15 spaces at Ten Ten Sinclair Housing, with transition support
  • 8 accessible supported-housing beds at N’Dinawemak
  • 8 special-needs beds at Deer Lodge Centre
  • A mobile support team for 25 Winnipeg patients returning home, with 6 to 12 months of support

About 600 patients in Manitoba hospitals on an average day are waiting for long-term care, housing or other community supports. The new spaces are in addition to 405 fully staffed beds added to the health-care system since October 2023.
