Manitoba Declares Its 2025 Measles Outbreak Over

From Oct. 16, children in affected regions return to the routine vaccine schedule, with the first measles dose recommended at 12 months or older.

Summary

Manitoba’s measles outbreak is over effective Oct. 16. The last laboratory-confirmed case was identified in August.

  • Cases: 1,038 reported, including 931 confirmed and 107 probable. Eighty-seven per cent of reported cases were in people who were unimmunized or whose immunization status was unknown.
  • Hospitalizations: 52, including six intensive care admissions. No deaths were reported.
  • Vaccination: About 15 per cent more Manitobans received a measles vaccine in 2025 than in 2024.

Temporary outbreak-related vaccine eligibility for children aged six months to under 12 months in affected regions is no longer in effect. Children should follow the routine schedule, which recommends a first measles vaccine dose at 12 months or older. Public health officials encourage Manitobans to keep vaccinations up to date and follow guidance on symptoms and possible exposure.
