New Brunswick sets out plan to grow its defence industry

A new framework aims to attract investment, create jobs and build defence capabilities in New Brunswick.

Summary

New Brunswick’s Defence Ready framework sets out how the province plans to grow its role in Canada’s defence sector as the country modernizes its armed forces.

The framework has four pillars:

  • Industry and investment: Build on strengths in land systems, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing.
  • Technology and innovation: Establish the province as a national hub for defence innovation.
  • Infrastructure and resources: Develop ports and critical minerals to support Canada’s security needs.
  • Base and community growth: Grow with CFB Gagetown and support people who serve or have served.

The province says the plan is intended to attract investment, create jobs and support its goal of growing the economy by 10 per cent by 2030. It will work with the provincial defence task force and other partners to advance the framework.
