Nova Scotia backs 44 projects for older adults
The grants support local food, housing and recreation services for seniors; applications for the next round close November 19.
Summary
The Age-Friendly Communities Grant program is supporting 44 projects to help seniors stay active, healthy and involved in their communities. Applications for the next round are open until November 19.
- VETS Canada: A $20,000 grant supports older veterans in crisis with food, housing assistance and other well-being resources. The Dartmouth organization offers food at its pantry, delivery for people who have mobility challenges or live in rural areas, and cooking lessons.
- Recreation Nova Scotia: A $10,000 grant will fund videos showing seniors how to safely use recreational and adaptive equipment, including walking poles, snowshoes, skis and bicycles.
Project grants can be up to $20,000. Planning grants can be up to $25,000. The program is open to eligible community organizations, municipalities, Mi’kmaq band councils, universities, certain post-secondary institutions and schools applying through a regional centre for education or the Conseil scolaire acadien provincial.
