Nova Scotia Power can seek approval for utility financing plan
New rules let the power company ask the energy board to approve financing that could reduce customer costs.
Summary
Nova Scotia has approved regulations allowing Nova Scotia Power Inc. to apply to the Nova Scotia Energy Board for authority to securitize utility assets.
Securitization could let the company recover approved costs over a longer period and at a lower interest rate, which may lower costs for customers. The energy board will scrutinize any application to assess whether the approach is in Nova Scotians’ best interests.
