Callander may receive up to $455,000 for storm repairs

The funding would help the municipality repair shoreline infrastructure damaged by an April 2024 storm surge.

Summary

  • Funding: Up to $455,000 for the Municipality of Callander through the Municipal Disaster Recovery Assistance program.
  • Damage: High winds over Lake Nipissing created powerful waves and a storm surge that damaged shoreline infrastructure along Callander Bay, including a collapsed break wall.
  • Program rules: Eligible costs must be directly linked to the disaster and above regular municipal budgets. A municipality may qualify when disaster-related costs reach 3% of its own-purpose taxation levy.
