Waterloo researchers will help communities prepare for floods

A three-year research agreement will give municipalities, conservation authorities and dam operators better information for flood planning and water management.

Summary

Ontario is investing $540,000 over three years in a research agreement with the University of Waterloo to help communities prepare for floods and manage water resources.

  • Hydrologic modelling will inform water management and infrastructure planning.
  • Municipalities, conservation authorities and local dam operators are expected to use the research to support flood preparation and dam operations.
  • Researchers will work with the District Municipality of Muskoka on modelling tailored to its watershed.

The agreement builds on earlier University of Waterloo research that produced hydrologic tools and resources the release says will be made publicly available.
