BWXT picked for Indigenous-led 50-MW reactor pilot in New Brunswick
The proposed Belledune plant could power up to 40,000 homes and support more than 150 development jobs, plus about 40 long-term positions.
Summary
Ontario-based BWXT Canada has been selected to fabricate and deploy a transportable nuclear power plant for an Indigenous-led pilot project in Belledune, New Brunswick. The 50-megawatt plant will use BWXT’s BANR reactor technology and is expected to provide power for up to 40,000 homes.
- Jobs: More than 150 during development and about 40 long-term positions once operational.
- Project facilities: A First Nations-owned power generation facility and energy innovation campus, including operations, maintenance and workforce training facilities.
- Partners: The project is being developed by Prodigy Clean Energy under an agreement with Pabineau First Nation and Eel River Bar First Nation.
