Saskatchewan harvest reaches 63% as dry weather boosts field work

Producers harvested more this week, but progress still trails recent averages, and dry conditions keep machinery fire risks elevated.

Summary

Warm, dry weather helped Saskatchewan producers harvest more of their crops during the week ending September 28.

  • Harvest complete: 63 per cent, up 22 per cent from the previous week.
  • Still behind recent averages: 91 per cent for the five-year average and 82 per cent for the 10-year average.
  • Regional progress: Southwest leads at 84 per cent; northeast is at 49 per cent.
  • Livestock water: 93 per cent of producers reported no current or expected shortages.

Dry conditions keep machinery fire risk elevated. The report advises carrying fire suppression equipment, cleaning machinery regularly and using caution near powerlines. Motorists are asked to watch for farm equipment on roads.
