Saskatchewan leaders seek more flexible federal infrastructure funding

Municipal leaders will meet federal officials October 6 and 7 to seek broader options for cost-shared infrastructure projects.

Summary

Saskatchewan’s Government Relations Minister and municipal leaders will meet with federal officials in Ottawa on October 6 and 7. They are calling for more flexibility in federal cost-shared funding so municipalities can support different types of infrastructure projects.

The province says earlier programs, including the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, led to more than $2 billion for 460 municipal projects. These included recreation facilities, water and wastewater projects, bridges and landfill projects.

The federal and provincial governments are also working toward an agreement on administering the Provincial-Territorial stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund.
