Saskatchewan sets September 28 for smoke alarm checks

Saskatchewan has proclaimed September 28, 2026, as Test Your Smoke Alarm Day and encourages residents to test alarms monthly.

• Working smoke alarms can provide an early warning during a fire. The release cites National Fire Protection Association data saying they cut the risk of dying in a house fire in half.
• Saskatchewan’s building code requires smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in all residential buildings, regardless of when they were built.
• Starting November 1, 2026, every suite in a multi-unit residential building must have a carbon monoxide alarm, wherever the suite is located.
