Saskatchewan sets Sept. 28 for smoke alarm checks

Saskatchewan’s Test Your Smoke Alarm Day is September 28, 2026. Residents are encouraged to test their alarms and make it a monthly habit.

• The building code requires smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in all residential buildings, regardless of when they were built.
• Starting November 1, 2026, every suite in a multi-unit residential building must have a carbon monoxide alarm, regardless of its location in the building.
• The release says working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a house fire in half.
