Three First Nations advance treaty land agreements with mineral-rights approvals
Saskatchewan approved additional Crown mineral rights for three First Nations as part of agreements to address outstanding treaty land entitlements.
Summary
Saskatchewan approved additional Crown mineral rights transfers to Canada for three First Nations under Treaty Land Entitlement (TLE) agreements.
- Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation: 480 acres approved, the first mineral-rights transfer under its 2022 agreement.
- Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation: 161 additional acres, bringing approved transfers under its agreement to about 33,210 acres.
- Pasqua First Nation: 160 additional acres, bringing approved transfers under its agreement to about 4,549 acres.
TLE agreements address reserve land First Nations were entitled to but did not receive under Treaty. Land acquired through these agreements may be transferred to reserve status. As of September 2026, about 900,970 acres had transferred to reserve in Saskatchewan under TLE agreements.
