Saskatchewan keeps CWD testing rules for the 2026–27 hunt

Testing stays mandatory in designated wildlife management zones and voluntary elsewhere, with hunters to receive updated requirements by October 31, 2026.

Summary

Saskatchewan will continue its current CWD testing approach for the 2026–27 hunting season.

  • Mandatory testing: Applies in designated wildlife management zones. Requirements depend on the zone, species and licence.
  • Voluntary testing: Hunters elsewhere may submit eligible samples through the existing program. Samples the ministry has already accepted will also be tested.
  • Why it matters: Testing gives hunters information about submitted samples and helps the province monitor CWD in wildlife.

Hunters will be notified of updated requirements by October 31, 2026. Check Saskatchewan.ca/CWD for eligible species, submission locations and instructions.
