Congressional Trade Responsibilities Plan

Summary#

This concurrent resolution would create a 14-member congressional committee to develop a plan for moving the functions and responsibilities of the Office of the United States Trade Representative to the legislative branch. A 21-member advisory board, including trade experts and representatives of labor, industry, agriculture, consumers, and other groups, would advise the committee. The committee must report its plan to Congress within 16 months after all its members are appointed. Under the plan, the transfer would happen no earlier than four years after the report or July 1, 2028, whichever date is later. The resolution has been referred to House committees.

What it means for you#
