Food Access in Health Centers

Summary#

The bill would direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to create a competitive grant program for partnerships between community health centers and nonprofit emergency feeding organizations. Grants could support a place at or near a health center where food is available, a scheduled food-providing vehicle at the center, or related food costs. Each grant could be no more than $500,000. The Secretary would publish program reports starting within two years of enactment and annually after that.

What it means for you#

If a partnership receives a grant, it could make food available at or near a community health center, including through a scheduled vehicle. The bill does not guarantee that a particular center or patient would receive these services.

Expenses#

The bill sets a maximum grant amount of $500,000 but does not specify total program funding. Grants may cover costs such as obtaining, transporting, storing, or distributing food.
