Middle East Security Cooperation Act

Summary#

The bill would require the Secretary of State, working with the Secretary of Defense, to prepare a report on expanding membership in the Comprehensive Security Integration and Prosperity Agreement (CSIPA). The report would examine the agreement’s security, economic, science, and technology goals; responses to attacks on ships in the Red Sea; barriers to adding members; and possible areas for more cooperation. Within 180 days after submitting the report, the Secretary of State would submit a membership strategy to congressional committees. A briefing on how to carry out the strategy would be due within 60 days after that strategy is prepared. The report and strategy would be unclassified, but could include a classified section.
