Relief for Diego Montoya Bedoya

Full Title:
For the relief of Diego Montoya Bedoya.

Summary#

This bill would give Diego Montoya Bedoya a path to become a lawful permanent resident. It says he may apply for an immigrant visa or for adjustment of status even if normal eligibility rules would not allow it. If he entered the United States before the filing deadline, the bill says he should be treated as having entered and remained lawfully and may adjust status if he is otherwise eligible. The bill prevents removal or denial of admission based on grounds shown in Department of Homeland Security or Department of State records on the date the bill becomes law, and it requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to rescind any outstanding removal or deportation orders or findings of inadmissibility or deportability for him. The bill requires him to file an application and pay required fees within two years after the bill becomes law. If he is granted an immigrant visa or permanent residence, the Secretary of State must reduce by one the number of immigrant visas available to natives of his country of birth in the current or next fiscal year. The bill also says his natural parents, brothers, and sisters cannot receive immigration benefits just because they are related to him.

  • For other people: the bill applies only to this named person and does not create a general rule for others.

Expenses#
