This bill would change how the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) charges copayments for contraception it provides. It would amend 38 U.S.C. 1722A(a)(2) so the VA may not charge: (A) an amount greater than the cost to the Secretary for certain contraceptive medications, or (B) any amount for a contraceptive item that federal law (section 2713(a)(4) of the Public Health Service Act) requires to be covered without cost-sharing.
If you are a veteran who gets contraception from the VA, this bill would limit how much you could be charged. You could not be charged more than the VA’s cost for certain contraceptive medications, and you could not be charged for contraceptive items that federal law requires to be covered without cost-sharing. The bill was introduced in the House on January 6, 2025, and is currently referred to the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, Subcommittee on Health.
