Protect Honduran Democracy Act

Summary#

The bill would direct the Secretary of State to create a strategy to support free and fair Honduran elections scheduled for November 30, 2025. The strategy would support election monitoring and address candidate harassment, misuse of public resources, violence, limits on speech or assembly, and unclear reporting of results. The bill would authorize grants to nongovernmental organizations to monitor and assess the elections. It would require visa-related sanctions for certain people found responsible for blocking candidates or intimidating or harassing candidates, election officials, or observers, with exceptions and a possible presidential waiver. It also encourages support for Honduran citizens living in the United States to vote.
