Don Young American Grown Act

Summary#

This bill would require that cut flowers and cut greens officially displayed in public areas of the Executive Office of the President, the Department of State, and the Department of Defense be produced in the United States. "Produced in the United States" is defined to include the several States, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories and possessions, and areas subject to the jurisdiction of a federally recognized Indian Tribe. The rule does not apply to cut flowers or greens used by a Federal officer or employee for personal display. The requirement takes effect one year after the date the Act is enacted.

What it means for you#

  • Official floral displays in public parts of the EOP, State Department, and DOD would need to use U.S.-produced cut flowers and greens.
  • Federal employees may still use non-U.S. flowers or greens for personal displays; the restriction applies only to official public-area displays.
  • The rule becomes effective one year after enactment, giving time to adjust sourcing and contracts.
