Veteran Service Recognition Act

Summary#

The Veteran Service Recognition Act of 2025 would create new immigration processes for noncitizens who serve or served in the U.S. Armed Forces and certain family members. It would require federal agencies to study noncitizen veterans who were removed from the United States, and create a system to identify veterans who may face removal. A new advisory committee would review certain removal cases and recommend whether immigration officials should use options such as pausing or ending removal proceedings.

The bill would also help eligible noncitizen service members apply for citizenship, provide immigration information at military recruitment processing stations, and allow some removed veterans to seek lawful permanent residence. It would create certain immigration protections for immediate relatives of eligible U.S. citizen service members and veterans. The bill was introduced in the House and referred to committees; it has not been enacted.

What it means for you#

If you are a noncitizen service member or veteran, the bill could provide more help with citizenship applications and require officials to consider your military service in certain immigration cases. Some veterans with final removal orders could apply for permanent residence, subject to eligibility rules and exceptions. Certain immediate relatives of U.S. citizens who served at least two years in the Armed Forces could also qualify for changes to how their immigration applications are handled. These are proposed changes, not current benefits under this bill.

Expenses#

The bill does not state a cost or provide funding amounts.
