Workforce Training Support Services Act

Summary#

The bill would amend the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act to create a fund for grants supporting people in certain job training programs. Local workforce boards, groups of local boards, and state boards working with such groups could apply. Grants could pay for existing supportive services and other services a grantee considers important for completing training, including groceries and after-hours childcare. Each grant would be capped at $2 million per year.

What it means for you#

If you take part in a training program covered by the bill, you could be eligible for support services provided by a grant recipient. Receiving services is not guaranteed; the bill would have the Secretary award grants through a competitive process.

Expenses#

The bill would use amounts appropriated to carry out the program. It does not specify a total appropriation. Each individual grant could not exceed $2 million per year.
