States must accept a registration form that meets the National Voter Registration Act's section 9(b) requirements, or let a person already registered update their registration information. The bill does not apply to a State that, under a State law in effect continuously on and after the bill's enactment, has no voter registration requirement for Federal elections. The requirement would take effect for the regularly scheduled general election for Federal office in November 2026 and thereafter. If you are eligible to vote in Federal elections, this bill would let you go to your polling place on election day or during early voting, complete a required registration form, and vote that same day. If you are already registered, you would be able to update your registration information at the polling place. If your State had no voter registration requirement in effect continuously from the date the bill became law, this bill would not change how voting works in that State. The rule starts with the November 2026 general Federal election.
