Restoring Confidence in WADA

Summary#

The bill directs the Office of National Drug Control Policy to work with U.S. anti-doping and Olympic groups on World Anti-Doping Agency governance. It sets goals for fair U.S. representation, conflict-of-interest rules, and decision-making roles for independent athletes from the United States and other democratic countries. Within 90 days, the office must assess whether the agency meets these standards. If it does not, the office must work to improve U.S. representation and issue a report within 180 days. It may also withhold some or all U.S. membership dues.

What it means for you#

The bill focuses on federal oversight and the governance of international anti-doping efforts. It does not describe a direct effect on individuals.

Expenses#

The bill does not set a new funding amount. Before the office commits funds to the World Anti-Doping Agency, it must send Congress a spending plan at least 30 days in advance. The office may withhold up to the full amount of membership dues if the agency does not meet the bill's governance standards.
