This bill directs the Secretary of Defense to provide stellate ganglion block treatment to members of the Armed Forces (including reserve components) who: are enrolled in TRICARE, have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and choose to receive the treatment after a qualified health care provider explains risks and benefits. The Secretary may provide the treatment at a Department of Defense medical facility or through a qualified provider who participates in TRICARE. The bill also requires the VA/DoD Clinical Practice Guideline for Management of PTSD to be updated within 180 days to show that stellate ganglion block is an available option and to include clinical indicators and contraindicators for the therapy. The bill becomes effective 180 days after enactment. The bill also adds a new section to chapter 55 of title 10, U.S. Code, and updates the chapter table of contents.
If you are a current or former member of the Armed Forces who performed active service and are enrolled in TRICARE, and you have a PTSD diagnosis, this bill would let you elect to receive stellate ganglion block as a treatment after being informed about its risks and benefits by a qualified provider. The treatment could be delivered at a DoD medical facility or by a TRICARE-participating provider. The official VA/DoD PTSD guideline would be updated to include this treatment option and guidance for when it should or should not be used.
