Preventing Child Trafficking Act of 2025

Summary#

This bill directs the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) in the Department of Justice, working with the Office on Trafficking in Persons at the Administration for Children and Families, to continue implementing the anti-trafficking recommendations in the Government Accountability Office (GAO) report titled "Child Trafficking: Addressing Challenges to Public Awareness and Survivor Support" (published December 11, 2023). It requires the agencies to use the leading collaboration practices referenced in GAO-24-106038 to develop and carry out strategies to prevent child trafficking and support child survivors. The bill also requires establishing achievable performance goals and targets for child anti-trafficking programs that are objective, measurable, and quantifiable, using baseline data from program grantees. Finally, the Director of OVC must submit a report to the Senate and House Judiciary Committees describing the steps taken within 180 days after the bill becomes law. The bill was introduced March 13, 2025, by Senators Jon Ossoff and Chuck Grassley and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
