School Guardian Grants

Summary#

The bill would create grants for states that choose to participate, to help pay for armed law enforcement officers at elementary and secondary schools. State law enforcement agencies could give subgrants to local law enforcement agencies to hire full-time officers. Agreements must provide for at least one full-time officer at each K–12 school in the local agency’s jurisdiction. Grants may cover officers’ pay, training, and equipment. States would report how the funds are used. The bill directs $80 billion in unobligated Internal Revenue Service funds to the program and allows up to $8 billion in grants per year from 2025 through 2034.

What it means for you#
