Veterans Access to Congressional Services

Summary#

The bill would require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to let Members of Congress use available spaces in VA facilities to meet with constituents, subject to rules. The Secretary and the General Services Administrator would identify spaces, and the VA Secretary would issue rules within 90 days of enactment. Spaces must be available during normal business hours, visible and accessible to constituents, and rented at a rate similar to nearby federal office space. The rules would limit political activities, recordings, and use during the 60 days before a federal election in the facility’s jurisdiction.

What it means for you#

Constituents could meet with their Member of Congress in an available VA facility space. Meetings would be subject to facility rules and could not interfere with VA operations. The bill does not allow recording patients, visitors, or VA employees without their consent.

Expenses#

Rent would be paid from the Member’s official representational or office expense account at a rate similar to nearby federal office space. No specific rent amounts are provided.
