This bill requires the FAA Administrator to publish and keep updated on the FAA website a list of medications the Administrator has determined may be safely prescribed to applicants for medical certification as airmen or air traffic control specialists, and medications approved for purposes of issuing those medical certificates. The list must be published within one year of enactment and updated annually.
The list must be drafted in consultation with the Aeromedical Innovation and Modernization Working Group, accredited aviation higher education institutions, certified bargaining representatives of air traffic controllers and airline pilots, and other stakeholders the Working Group considers relevant. The list must cover prescription and over-the-counter medications, be user-friendly and accessible, be provided when an individual first seeks medical certification, include any medications designated as "Do Not Issue," and, if applicable, indicate minimum and average stabilization periods during which an airman or controller must limit or stop duties after starting an approved medication. The list must include contact information for doctors or medical providers to ask the FAA questions and may include any additional information the Administrator finds appropriate.
