The bill would recognize eligible members of the United States Cadet Nurse Corps who served from July 1, 1943, through December 31, 1948. Within one year of enactment, the Secretary of Defense would issue an honorable discharge to each person whose service warrants it. Those discharged would be honored as veterans and could qualify for certain burial benefits, including headstones and markers, but not Arlington National Cemetery interment based only on this service. They would not qualify for other benefits administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs because of this service. The Secretary of Defense could also create a service medal, commendation, memorial plaque, or grave marker.
If you served in the Cadet Nurse Corps during the covered period, the bill could provide an honorable discharge and limited recognition and burial benefits, depending on the Secretary of Defense’s determination about your service. It does not grant other veterans benefits based on this service.
The bill does not specify expenses or funding.
