Defund Government-Sponsored Propaganda Act

Summary#

This bill would bar the use of federal funds to support the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), National Public Radio (NPR), and any successor organizations. The ban would apply directly or indirectly, including when a public broadcast station uses federal money to pay dues to PBS or NPR or to buy programming from them. For fiscal years 2025, 2026, and 2027, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) must transfer to a Treasury account an amount equal to the money that would have been allocated to PBS and NPR under specific clauses of the Communications Act but for the funding ban.
