This bill stops the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture from banning the use of lead ammunition or lead fishing tackle on most Federal land or water they manage that is open for hunting or fishing. It also stops those agencies from issuing rules about how much lead can be in ammunition or tackle for those places. The bill does not affect actions already allowed by sections 20.21 or 20.108 of title 50, Code of Federal Regulations (as of the bill's enactment). A local exception is allowed: an agency may limit or regulate lead on a specific unit of Federal land or water if the agency finds, based on field data from that unit, that wildlife decline there is primarily caused by lead in ammunition or tackle, and if the restriction is consistent with or approved by the State fish and wildlife authorities. Any such local restriction must include an explanation in a Federal Register notice of how it meets those conditions. The bill was introduced in the Senate on February 12, 2025, and referred to the Committee on Environment and Public Works.
