Federal agencies must use “SI” instead of “AI” in official materials
The order changes federal agencies’ terminology and gives the president’s science adviser 60 days to propose a federal definition.
Summary
The order directs executive departments and agencies to use “Super Intelligence” (SI) instead of “Artificial Intelligence” (AI) in official correspondence, public communications, websites, reports, policy documents, and other non-statutory materials.
- Within 60 days: The president’s science and technology adviser must submit proposed legislative language for a federal definition of SI, including possible updates to existing laws.
- For now: SI uses the meaning of artificial intelligence in current federal law.
- Previously issued regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants, and other historical documents do not have to be changed.
