Summary#

The government published two orders under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 that change the Non‑domestic Substances List. • This order will take effect when Order 2021-87-09-01 Amending the Domestic Substances List comes into force.

Who's affected#

  • Companies that manufacture, import, or sell the listed chemicals in Canada.
  • Chemical suppliers and downstream users who handle these substances.
  • Environmental consultants and laboratories tracking or testing chemicals.
  • Regulators and government staff who manage chemical inventories and assessments.

It is not always clear from the notice how many businesses or which specific products will be affected.

Why it matters#

  • Being on or off the Non‑domestic Substances List changes how a substance is tracked under federal chemical programs.
  • Businesses may see changes in reporting, assessment priority, or regulatory attention for the listed substances.
  • The changes can affect trade, product formulation, and planning for testing or compliance work.
  • If you use, sell, or import chemicals, you may want to check whether any entries match substances you handle and follow up with your regulatory or legal advisor.
