Summary
Summary#
These are final rules called the Regulations Amending the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers Quota Regulations. They replace the quota schedule and set province-by-province limits for broiler hatching eggs for the 2025 year. The rules came into force when they were registered on January 28, 2025.
What it does#
- Replaces the previous schedule in the Canadian Hatching Egg Producers Quota Regulations with a new schedule of limits that apply for the period January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025.
- Sets the allowed number of broiler hatching eggs for interprovincial and intraprovincial trade and for export trade for each signatory province:
- Ontario: 286,956,120 (interprovincial/intraprovincial), 0 (export)
- Quebec: 231,588,982, 0
- Manitoba: 38,182,392, 0
- British Columbia: 129,278,344, 0
- Saskatchewan: 31,297,231, 0
- Alberta: 96,555,043, 0
Who's affected#
- Canadian Hatching Egg Producers and the provincial boards or agencies that run hatching-egg quota systems.
- Broiler hatching egg producers, hatcheries and poultry breeders in the listed provinces.
- Buyers and distributors who move hatching eggs between provinces or plan breeding capacity for 2025.
- It is not clear from this notice whether any other provinces or territories are covered; the schedule lists the signatory provinces above.
Why it matters#
- These limits determine how many broiler hatching eggs can be marketed across the listed provinces in 2025. That affects how many chicks hatcheries can plan for and how producers schedule production.
- For producers and hatcheries, the numbers are central to planning flock size, contracts, and production calendars for the year.
- Because all export limits are set at 0 in the schedule, the rules indicate no export allocation under this schedule for 2025 (as listed).
