Yellowquill gains authority to grant university degrees

A Manitoba law proclaimed Oct. 1 formally recognizes Yellowquill University College’s authority to grant degrees.

The Yellowquill University College Act was proclaimed on Oct. 1, formally authorizing Yellowquill University College (YQUC) to grant university degrees in Manitoba.

  • YQUC is the province’s first fully recognized First Nations-owned and operated post-secondary institution with degree-granting authority.
  • The law removes barriers that had limited the college’s ability to expand programs and access supports available to other institutions.
  • YQUC is based at Long Plain First Nation’s urban reserve in Winnipeg and also delivers programs in First Nations communities.
