Georgian Bay floating accommodations must be removed after court ruling
A Port Severn business owner was fined $19,000 and ordered to remove four floating accommodations placed on public waters.
Summary
A court ordered Joseph Nimens to remove four floating accommodations from public waters in Georgian Bay near Port Severn and fined him $19,000.
The Ontario Court of Justice found that the structures were placed on public land between May 28, 2024, and February 21, 2025. They were observed in six locations, including during winter when they froze in place.
The Public Lands Act does not allow floating accommodations to be placed or used on public lands covered by water.
