Saskatchewan marks a week for forests and forestry

Saskatchewan proclaimed September 20–26, 2026, as National Forest Week. This year’s theme is “Forest Pathways: Innovation and Sustainability.”

• The forestry sector supports 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in northern Saskatchewan, making it the region’s second-largest industry after mining.
• Indigenous workers make up about 27 per cent of the sector’s workforce. Saskatchewan is also home to Canada’s largest fully owned and operated First Nations sawmill.
• The province says it modernized its timber royalty system this spring to align it with other resource royalty systems and help keep the forestry sector competitive.
